The Grand Union Canal - Milton Keynes to Leighton Buzzard
Zooming down the hill of Campbell park in Milton Keynes is a great way to kick start your journey. As you whiz down you find yourself transported back to childhood, the same adrenaline rush you felt when you went down your first big hill... you cant help but smile and scream weeeeeeee in you head!
No cars for the next 12 or so miles, just the glistening canal to guide you to Leighton Buzzard. Following the Redway through Campbell park you find yourself immersed in greenery as you pass the cricket field, ready to approach the Grand Union Canal. |
The route combines parts of the Millennium Circular path, the Redway and route 6. If your looking for a nice photo opportunity you can hop off your bike at Peartree bridge and be greeted by a hungry looking dinosaur.
Shortly after leaving Milton Keynes you will pass plenty of bright yellow fields and the occasional stork basking in the sun. If you creep slowly enough you might be able to take a snap mid-flight.
As you approach Stoke Hammond there are lots of beautiful barges to keep your eyes entertained.
The Globe pub in Linslade is a great place to stop for a bite to eat, relax, and admire the view. While you wait for your meal you can always treat yourself at The Candy Boat, the cherry and almond fudge melts in your mouth and can be a little too addictive....
The great thing about this route is that if you don't fancy cycling back, you can always jump on the train at Leighton Buzzard back to Milton Keynes. For more photos of cycling in Leighton Buzzard please check out these photos from a previous Breeze ride!
