Cycle your Heart Out for International Women’s Day

On Sunday 8th March I will be teaming up with my good friend Miriam to spread the love on International Women’s day with a heart shaped bicycle route in Barcelona!

Picture

Miriam from Granada, Spain is a masseuse and yoga teacher and has been living in Barcelona for 8 years. After finding out about my heart-shaped bicycle route she decided it would be the perfect way to spread the love and celebrate international women's day! Inspired by her "Happy Person" event a few months ago, she will be giving out free massage vouchers to a few lucky women who she spots working along the heart shaped route.

"I want to say thanks and be thankful to all the working women who are bringing happiness to others with a simple smile". I think it's a beautiful idea and am looking forward to joining Miriam on the day.

If you´re in Barcelona you can view the MAP & VIDEO here and have fun trying it out yourself! Come back in 2 weeks to view the photos from the day and watch my exclusive interview with Miriam.

Rottnest Island, Western Australia, 2009

The Island is 11 km long, 4.5 km at its widest point with a great 24km cycle path around the Island.

The staff at the bike hire said it would take around 2.5 hours to go around the island at a nice pace. However the amount of beautiful beaches along they way made it almost impossible not to jump off every 5 minutes!

Darwin, Northern Territory Australia

Cycling around Darwin in Australia back in 2010 was a truly unforgettable experience.

One of mine and my sisters favourite hobbies was to collect the fallen frangipanis from the grass and decorate our bikes and hair with them. The hypnotising scent would then follow us along our whole journey until our sunset snooze on Mindel Beach.

I HOPE THAT IN 2014 YOU MAKE MISTAKES!

Hello everyone, after reflecting on the year with a close friend , one common theme kept arising... to make lots of mistakes, learn from them and not live in fear..

A couple days later my friend sent me this text by Author Neil Gaiman, I loved it so much I just had to share it with you all!

To help inspire you further I've teamed the text together with a photograph I took back in the summer in Barcelona! Having not ridden a bike for a long time and feeling like she had forgotten how, this photo captures the moment Esther let go of fear... made a mistake....and learnt from it.... whoooooosshhhh!

So as Neil Gaiman says "whatever it is you're scared of doing, DO IT.. make your mistakes, next year and forever!"

Happy 2014, Love Sarah xx

Ladies day out in Richmond

It was awesome to hear today from my lovely friend Justine who just completed a heart shaped bicycle route along the Richmond Tamsin trail in London.

Here's how it went...
Picture
Justine
Over a yummy bite to eat with sarah at Jamie Oliver's and hours or catching up on where life has taken us, I was left buzzing with energy and the compulsive urge to organise a cycle your heart out day in London, so I did!

A combination of family and friends from all ages, there was 8 of us in total. Lisa, Heather, Debbie, Charlotte, Heather, Mirela, Lucy, Hayley, and myself.

We were so blessed as the sun came out for us and was the first sunny day in a long time. We laughed, we huffed and puffed and admired the natural beauty with the deers. We devoured our lunch outside of the stunning Pembroke House before setting off to complete our ride.

Everyone had so much fun and are all looking forward to the next event to Cycle our hearts out more :-) thank you Sarah.

Beautiful story Justine thanks so much for sharing with us! I hope you enjoyed reading this article, have you ever thought about cycling your heart out for something you're passionate about? If so I would LOVE to hear from you! Leave a comment below this blog post with the one Country you would LOVE to cycle your heart out in and why.

Cycle your hearts out and I'll speak you soon.

Lots of love,

Inspiring Biker Girl Story from Karen in Milton Keynes

Name: Karen Kodish
Age: 40
Job: Photographer
Lives: Milton Keynes
Picture
An inspiring story for all of those who have been through a heart attack, or know of loved ones that have.

When did you suffer your heart attack?
The early hours of Christmas Day 2012.
What advice would you give to anyone else that has been through one?
Don't think it's the end.  It's actually the beginning of you being able to put
things right.  It takes time to strengthen.  I'm nearly 2 months into my new
lease of life and still know I've a way to go.  You'll learn who your friends
are and don't let pride get in the way of asking for help.  It's out there and
friends will be only too pleased to do their bit to help you.  Go to your local cardiac rehab.  I feel it's really important that you're physically and
emotionally monitored by those in the know.  Please don't try to do it on your own!  I'm grateful for it not only for the support and education I receive, but also to help me get into a routine again.  Plus you're with others who have also
been through it.
What motivated you to get back into cycling?
If I'm going to have to exercise, I'm going to do what I know I've enjoyed in the past! You've got to have fun getting fit!
I love to cycle because...
Because you're in fresh air and you see places that are hidden from view if
driving.  Practically, it can save you money if you choose to substitute shorter car journeys with a cycle ride instead AND you get fit doing it!
Favourite inspiring quote...
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the ONLY option you have left - Bob Marley. I certainly learned that on Christmas, I was on my own!
and song..
THE most inspirational piece of music I've ever heard is George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue

Thank you Karen for sharing your story with us!

Cycle your way to a clutter free life!

The start of the new year is a perfect time to de-clutter, clear your mind, and prepare yourself for all the new year's resolutions you have made...especially if one of those resolutions was to cycle more!

So why not pick up some bags, and fill them with all the things you don't use anymore. Load up your saddle bags, and cycle it all down to your local charity shop. To make it more fun you can get your friends and street involved, and if you can't fit all your stuff in your panniers bags at once, then doing a few trips will also be a great way to burn off those extra Christmas holiday pounds!

Having always been a little bit of a clutter-holic, a friend of mine recommended this fun website to me a while ago called Fly Lady, check out her link here which offers you some great de-cluttering tips!

Me and my sister decided to donate all our clutter to our local Willen Hospice charity shop in Milton Keynes. If you would also like to donate there click here for the address

Happy de-cluttering!

Congratulations to Maja Dunn

Congratulations to Maja Dunn for winning the CYHO 'Freedom' pendant at the Chain Reaction festival on Sunday. All money raised from the raffle went to the cause of the winner's choice. Thank you Maja for deciding to donate the money towards the MK Fringe festival!

The photograph for 'Freedom' was taken at Furzton lake in Milton Keynes and captures how fun and free it feels to be a woman cyclist in this generation.

The pendant comes complete with a rose petal scroll, which rolls out to show the miniature heart shaped map of where the shot was captured.

Learning to Live With Loving Intention

Deborah Ellis from Milton Keynes decided to mark the begining of her new adventure to Peru with an inspiring ride....

What motivated you into cycling your heart out?
My passion for yoga led to a chance meeting where I found out about Cycle Your Heart Out and cycling for a purpose. I decided to cycle a heart route as a thank you to Milton Keynes for being the starting point for my jorney to Peru, and to learn to live life with loving intentions. I hope my trip will be blessed, so I can explore the music, the landscape, relax, write poetry and hopefully fall in love…

Please tell us about the route
I had cycled Blue Bridge to Furzton over summer with my parents and had really come to love the redways, and a growing appreciation for Milton Keynes. So after finding the route on Cycle Your Heart Out from a previous Furzton lake heart route, I thought it would be a perfect little route to cycle.

Thanks for sharing your lovely story and photos Deborah, wishing you all the best of luck for your trip to Peru. Check out one of her beautifull poems below.
These lines are from her poem entitled "sometimes"

"When we can open-hearted show
that you are me and with love know
the longing, aching search will drop
and judgment, hatred, hurt will stop

And through all time compassion flow
tenderness and kindness grow
'til past and future merge to now
only this moment anyhow

Freedom found to live with ease
no more actions seek to please
for sometime is too far away
better just to seize the day!"

Getting Grubby at the London Bike Kitchen

Had lots of fun yesterday with fellow Breeze champions Jess, Karolina and Emma at the fab London Bike Kitchen near Hackney. If you are looking to learn how to fix your bike yourself, doing a bike maintenance workshop is a great place to get stuck in and build your confidence. You can even learn how to build your own bike from scratch!

Founded by the lovely Jenni Gwiazdowski last year, the London Bike Kitchen is an open DIY workshop where you can work on your own bike instead of giving it to someone else, find out more here.
